A Giftable Holiday Mason Jar Cocktail: The Jack Frost
December 21, 2023
I’m ashamed to admit that I’m not the shining star of my cul de sac. I don’t always bring in my garbage cans on time, my hydrangeas are unkempt, and my name recall for neighborhood pets is abysmal. You might be wondering why I have not yet been driven out with pitchforks by the kind townsfolk, and the answer is simple: bribery. In exchange for my neighbors’ forbearance I deliver them each a holiday mason jar cocktail for Christmas. Here’s one of my favorite recipes, and I hope it serves my fellow hooligans equally well.
This holiday mason jar cocktail is called “Jack Frost” and it’s a Christmas-y twist on the classic Jack Rose cocktail.

To Build the Jack Frost Holiday Mason Jar Cocktail:
Servings: 2
Tools needed:
- Cocktail shaker
- Fine mesh strainer
- Hawthorne strainer
- Cocktail cup measurer
- Lemon squeezer
Here are some of my favorite cocktail tools.
Materials needed:
- Mason jar
- Tissue paper or wrapping paper
- Ribbon
Ingredients:
- 4 ounces apple brandy
- 1 1/2 ounces grenadine
- 1 ounce ginger liqueur
- 1 1/2 ounces fresh lime juice
- Ice for shaking
- Star anise, pomegranate seeds, orange wheel, and cinnamon stick for garnish
Instructions:
Add apple brandy, grenadine, lime juice, and ginger liqueur to a cocktail shaker. Shake with plenty of ice (even though your giftee may not drink the cocktail right away, you should still shake it to make sure the drink has the correct amount of dilution). Next, double strain the cocktail into a mason jar, add your garnishes, and close the lid. Add some festive wrapping, and it’s ready to give.
Note: the cocktail should be kept in the fridge and consumed within approximately 12 hours.
